In 1966, six members of the Ledyard Canoe Club at Dartmouth College kayaked 1,000 miles along the Inland Sea and southern Pacific coast of Japan. They invited four Englishmen to join them in this ‘goodwill’ expedition. Their journey became a National Geographic Magazine cover story in September 1967. The author’s diary recounts the three-month adventures.
