To celebrate Dartmouth College’s Ledyard Canoe Club’s 100th anniversary in 2020, a history of the club from 1920 to 1967 was reprinted. Written by Thomas Falcon as a thesis at Dartmouth in 1965, it was privately published in 500 copies. The first reprint carried the Club’s logo prevailing in 1967 but was forced by legal counsel at Dartmouth to remove when it was labeled ‘racist’ for showing a Native American birch bark canoe–from which was born the modern day canoe. The new cover shows the canoe club in 1965 and the old logo still present on the clubhouse in 2020.
