ERWIN ROMMEL – His name is known as Germany’s most famous general in the Second World War II. Less known were his exploits in the First World War. As a 25 year-old Second Lieutenant he served in Romania over a nine month period in 1916 and again 1917. In his last battle on Mount Coșna/Hill 789, the Romanian Hunters Regiment would prevent his making a strategically important breakthrough. The author’s father was a company Captain in that final battle on the Romanian Front in August of 1917.
